here are some of my poems.

Sleep, Sail
Sail away with the dreamer
Sail away with the soul

Sleep unhindered in the steamer
Sleep sweetly in the bowl

Sail away with the happy sailors
Sail away with the sweet tailors

Sleep in the rocking cradle of the sea
Sleep above the churning the tea

Sail from the constraining cultures
Sail away from sucking vultures

Sleep in the swaying hammock
Sleep clutching the magic shamrock

Sail from hateful conventions
Sail away from tight attentions

Sleep in the woolen coverlet, do
Sleep in the King’s golden shoe

Sail with the caressing waves
Sail away from pressuring knaves

Sleep, fighting off the ship’s rat
Sleep with a rat killing gray cat

Sail away from troubles, yea do
Sail away from achings, yea do

Sleep away the nightmares
Sleep away the well-founded fears

Swan Song
I have climbed the tallest mountains
I have fallen forever from their peaks
I have drowned in raging fountains
I have heard the devil as he speaks
I have dropped my roses
I have blown your noses

Chorus-
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

I have heard the brooding wind
I have seen the fullness of your sins
I have felt the sleet on my back
I have hung forever on this bloody rack
I have hung like hanger from my coat
I and you have sunk the boat

Chorus
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

I have danced with the thunder
I have thrown teapots asunder
I have seen enough
I am all talk and no bluff
Though my voice is gruff
I am still very tough

Chorus
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

I have sung to the brothers
I have kissed our mothers
I have left the sandy shore
I have begged for more
I have loved you forever
I have pulled the lever

Chorus
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

I have cried with the moon
I have missed the baboon
I have kicked the beer-sucker
I have sewn the seer-sucker
I have brushed the North Wind’s hair
I have danced at the fair

Chorus
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

I have beached with the whales
I have sailed through the gales
I have bathed the golden violin
I ache for the places I have been
I have listened to the loon’s call
I have leapt from the raging falls

Chorus
Speak, speak, speak
Please lift breathy voices
In song
Lift your beaks my swans
Lift your beaks

Sweet Symphony
Yes, this symphony is sweet
Yes, this dream will not end
Always sitting in this silver seat
Bound with cords that will not bend

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Has this blessed world ended?
Before we, alas, intended?
Have you ever been kicked down stairs?
Landing near the bottom, unawares

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Uncertainty rages over me
In my dark it’s difficult to see
You whisper, ‘Never alone, never alone’
In a comforting tone

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

The moody twins are running
Color-coded insanity
It’s you and me they’re shunning
Shouting wild profanities

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Into the black-night lawn I fled
Ran into Jupiter’s visions, there I linger
Feeling as though all my blood was bled
The cut was small, on my finger

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Into a murky sea the Nordic nomad dove
For perfection he had always strove
Death was freedom he thought
Shame to his Norse name he brought

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

The sailor’s ship ran aground
Throwing him into a burst of flaming tears
Rain, wind and sleet all around
Raincold, the realization of his fears

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Around, near and all about the containers rage
One life, one death, they smell of sweet sage
I watch, praying fervently in Latin
I breath the reek of burning, scorching satin

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

All my un-said wishes built my prison
My silver corded chair
The pure cold full moon has risen
As I saying sobbing on the stair

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Seeing only the running haunted
In this pine forest of lost dreams
Feeling the running undaunted
Hearing only the dead screams

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

Seeing in someone’s eyes
The black lost shroud
Seeing in those deep orbs only lies
Dark eyes wicked cloud

Though the players are gone
The symphony plays on

I think the end, unblessed, has come
I hear the baby’s whisper, ‘what have we become?’
And the man they call a spick is drunk on rum
Thickly sobbing, sadly glum

Though the players are gone
The sweet, sweet symphony plays on

Fall 2001
walking in the green forest
is enough to name one ‘a’ your kids gump
dance wild in this cheesy dump
is enough to make you laugh like Tom Hanks
yeah yeah, forget about the skanks
tell a stupid joke to someone you don’t know
and dance with Antonio Bandaras real slow
ha ha! it’s a funny fun fall day
and it’s glory to be so favored by the fall sun’s ray
dance to the stupid top 40 pop song
and like blank eyed clones they all sing along
i came running up to you and said hey
out of breath i laughed, so did you
then we both flew into the bright open sky so blue
standing on the agape street corner
a band somewhere plays little Jack Horner
chatting with an opera singer named Klara
who raised a brow like Scarlett O’ Hara
ain’t this a funny joke?
says some homeless New York bloke
oh it is those like he
and make things the way they be
the threat of a bloody war is hovering
and people keep trying to keep it gently covering
haven’t they seen the movies?
and haven’t they read the books, the true stories?
call to the nameless face in the mud puddle
and under some entryway does the world huddle
someone is playing guitar and mournfully singing
and somewhere a persistent telephone is ringing
look into the mirror, see those glaring eyes?
glance into the eyes, the soul, of someone wise
there is sand in my shoes, i wanna behold the sea
oh please God, answer this sad, sad plea
never thought i would see a war, but here it is
and i am speechless, the blood on the ground
was the blood of a father fireman, yes it was his
and somehow there are pieces all around
he died saving someone else, died so they could live
oh the greatest gift in the world he did give
and the world just doesn’t see his sobbing wife
the end of so great a pulsing life
his sad eyed baby, his crying mother
the hollow eyed face of his big boned brother
and so away from the hell we walk
and as the walk becomes a wild run, we talk
this is the end of something good, i know
and the icy winds begin to swiftly blow
faster! faster! i scream to you and the wind
and swirling, the world seems to transcend
into the sky so opaquely blue
but then we remember, there’s nowhere to run to
i lean on your angel arm of chivalry
and fall asleep at the feet of Lady Liberty

SEASONS
the ape of springtime is approaching.
and when spring is over he will die
and we together will bury him
beneath the old walnut tree
the ape of springtime has died
let us hold the funeral
let us at once get the parson
and we together will bury him
beneath the old walnut tree
the zebra of summer has come
he has in gallop today
we have buried the ape yesterday
and the zebra of summer has returned
the heat of the sun he has spurned
and when he leaves we will sing
goodbye to the summer again
goodbye to the summer today
the deer of autumn is here
he is here to paint all the leaves
he has come with the golden sunset
and together they’ll weave the colors
but tomorrow the winds of winter will come
today they’ve stripped the trees
the trees are naked today,
and their fingers are bony for the miles they have wended
and now the ice coats them so
that you cannot dream them away
now the seasons begin again
and the ape is re-dug up again
and the zebra has brought the summer
and deer of autumn have run
run away with the winds and the leaves…
together they have run away.

Swan Song 2
I have read the holy books
I have flown with the rooks
I have touched your hair
I have danced forever at the fair
Chorus;
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing

I have loved so many a king
I have dressed like a queen
There are no more songs to sing
Please leave alone my spleen
Chorus:
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing

Come come gentle zephyr
Let us love the red, red heifer
Listen! The voice of Venus speaks
While feet on the stairs creek
Chorus
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing

Dance and sing like the Irish
The bleak November is garish
Laugh, laugh instead of cry
Live until the moment you die
Chorus
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing

Help me climb the mountain
Catch me if I fall
We must drink from the fountain
Answer softly the call
Chorus:
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover me with your feathery wing

Let’s drink the tears of the sea
And mix them with our own
Garnish it with the wind’s deep moan
Answer, please, my aching plea
Chorus
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing

Cover the earth in moonbeams
Bathe bluely the sea
Love the wingless bumblebee
End the beautiful dream
Chorus:
Gentle swans, your voices are thin
Tell me the places you’ve been
Let us wear the golden ring
Cover my with your feathery wing
